Historical Significance
First major Turkic-Muslim dynasty to expand Islam into the Indian subcontinent. Mahmud of Ghazni's seventeen campaigns into India reshaped the religious geography of South Asia. The court patronized Firdawsi's Shahnameh and al-Biruni's Indica. These campaigns were accompanied by the establishment of systems of unfree labor, which had lasting implications for social organization and economic practices in the regions they influenced.
