First major Turkic-Muslim dynasty to expand Islam into the Indian subcontinent. Mahmud of Ghazni's seventeen campaigns into India reshaped the religious geography of South Asia. The court patronized Firdawsi's Shahnameh and al-Biruni's Indica.
