Historical Significance
Ahmad ibn Tulun established Egypt's first truly autonomous Muslim dynasty, creating the template for Egyptian independence from the caliphate. The internal tensions, including social and economic pressures, challenged the stability of the Tulunid Emirate. The Mosque of Ibn Tulun remains one of the oldest and most impressive mosques in Cairo.
