A key military and political leader of the Adal Sultanate. From 1527 to 1543, he led a campaign that brought much of the Christian Ethiopian highlands under Muslim control, supported by Ottoman firearms.

His campaigns reshaped the religious and ethnic landscape of the Horn of Africa and influenced Ethiopian-Somali relations for centuries.
