Salman al-Farsi was a companion of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and an important figure in the early Islamic community. Salman played a critical role during the Battle of the Trench (627 CE), suggesting the use of trench warfare—a tactic unfamiliar to the Arabs but instrumental in defending Medina from the Quraysh siege.
