Founding father of Bangladesh who led the Bengali separation movement from Pakistan. His Awami League won the 1970 Pakistani elections, and when the military refused to transfer power, his call for resistance sparked the 1971 Liberation War. After Bangladesh's establishment (with Indian military intervention), he became the country's first president and later prime minister. Assassinated in a military coup in 1975.
