Soumaoro Kanté سومارو كانتي

Soumaoro Kanté was a ruler of the Sosso kingdom and a prominent military leader before the rise of the Mali Empire. Known for his formidable resistance against the emerging forces of Sundiata Keita, he sought to consolidate power across the region. His rule was marked by strategic efforts to dominate trade routes and economic resources, including control over gold-producing regions. Soumaoro’s defeat at the Battle of Kirina in 1235 was a decisive turning point in West African history, paving the way for the rise of the Mali Empire.
