Sultan Hasanuddin, known as the 'Rooster of the East,' was the ruler of the Kingdom of Gowa in South Sulawesi during the 17th century. He led his kingdom in resistance against the Dutch East India Company (VOC), defending local sovereignty and maritime trade networks. His reign was marked by attempts to unify the region and strengthen its position as a major trading hub in the archipelago. Although his resistance eventually faced setbacks, his leadership exemplified the struggle for autonomy and economic control.
