Al-Rahman Mosque

An unfinished mosque in Baghdad originally planned to be the largest in the world. Its incomplete state reflects the disruptions of war and regime change in modern Iraq.

Historical Context

The mosque was begun under Saddam Hussein's regime as a prestige project. Construction was halted by the 2003 invasion and has not been completed.
