Alaeddin Mosque (Konya)

The main mosque of the Seljuk capital Konya, sitting atop the ancient citadel mound. It contains the tombs of several Seljuk sultans and represents the political heart of the Sultanate of Rum.
Historical Context
The mosque was built in stages by multiple sultans of Rum. Konya was also the city where Jalal al-Din Rumi lived and taught, making it the birthplace of the Mevlevi Sufi order (Whirling Dervishes).
