Cave of Hira

The cave on Jabal al-Nour where the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ received the first revelation of the Quran from the Angel Jibril — the moment that initiated the prophetic mission and, by extension, Islamic civilization itself.

Historical Context

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had developed a habit of retreating to this cave for contemplation (tahannuth) before his prophetic call. The cave sits near the summit of Jabal al-Nour (Mountain of Light), approximately 3.2 km from the Kaaba.
