A UNESCO World Heritage mosque and hospital complex in eastern Anatolia, famous for its extraordinary carved stone doorways that are considered masterpieces of Anatolian Seljuk art.

Historical Context

Built by Ahmad Shah of the Mengujekid dynasty and his wife Turan Melek Sultan, the complex combines a congregational mosque with a hospital (darüşşifa). The stone carvings are so unique that art historians have struggled to classify them within any single artistic tradition.
