Humayun's Tomb

The first garden tomb on the Indian subcontinent, designed by a Persian architect for the Mughal Emperor Humayun. It is the direct architectural precursor to the Taj Mahal.
Historical Context
The tomb was commissioned by Humayun's first wife, Bega Begum (Haji Begum), nine years after his death. It was designed by the Persian architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyas, and its construction introduced true double-dome construction to India.
