The mausoleum of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran. One of the largest religious complexes in the world, it symbolizes the revolutionary transformation of Iranian governance.

Historical Context

Khomeini died in 1989 and was buried on this site south of Tehran. The mausoleum has been continuously expanded and now includes a mosque, seminary, museum, and commercial complex.
