Historical Context
Arab migration to Argentina began in the 1860s and accelerated through the early 20th century, driven primarily by economic opportunity and political instability in Ottoman Syria and Mount Lebanon. The overwhelming majority of these migrants were Christian (Maronite, Orthodox, and Melkite), but a significant Muslim minority also settled — particularly from the Bekaa Valley, Homs, and rural Syria. By the mid-20th century, Argentine Muslims had established community mosques and cultural associations.
