The largest mosque in Beirut, built in the heart of the reconstructed downtown near the Martyrs' Square. Its blue domes and Ottoman-inspired design have become landmarks of the rebuilt city center.

Historical Context

Built on a site where the Sunni Muslim community had long wished to construct a major mosque, the project was championed by former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri, who was assassinated in 2005. The mosque was completed posthumously.
