The first mosque in Islam, built by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ upon his arrival in Medina during the Hijra. The Quran describes praying there as equivalent to performing Umrah.

Historical Context

Upon arriving in Quba on the outskirts of Yathrib (later Medina) in 622 CE, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ stayed for several days and personally participated in laying the foundation of this mosque before proceeding to the city center. The mosque has been rebuilt and expanded numerous times, most recently by the Saudi government.
