Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque

The first mosque built in Delhi after the establishment of Muslim rule, incorporating columns and materials from pre-existing Hindu and Jain temples. Its name means 'Might of Islam.'
Historical Context
The mosque was built on the site of a Jain temple and used columns from 27 Hindu and Jain temples. The subsequent expansions by Iltutmish and Alauddin Khalji enlarged the complex significantly.
