Sultan's Palace (Sokoto)

The seat of the Sultan of Sokoto, the highest traditional Islamic authority in Nigeria and successor to the Sokoto Caliphate. The palace remains a center of Islamic governance and scholarship.

Historical Context

The original caliphal capital was at Gudu, before moving to Sokoto. The Sultan's Palace has been the seat of successive sultans who have maintained the caliphate's traditions of Islamic scholarship and governance.
