Zitouna Mosque

The Great Mosque of Tunis and one of the oldest mosques in North Africa. Its associated university, Zitouna University, is one of the first universities in the world.
Historical Context
The mosque was founded in 732 CE during the Umayyad period and was significantly expanded under the Aghlabids and Hafsids. The great historian Ibn Khaldun studied and taught here.
